NPU has now been tested & works! https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/ASUS_Zenbook_UM5606#NPU

@VanKurt you might also need to do install/enable these services: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/ASUS_Zenbook_UM5606#Power_management

P.S. it's normal/expected behavior for linux-firmware-git to include amd-ucode-git :)

A reminder to please take discussions about these patches on other distros to an appropriate channel :)

@iiiiciiii But I think the performance is not where it should be. GPU-intense tasks (video playback, CAD, gaming) make the machine run hot, loud and drain the battery fast. My old notebook (ancient Intel Iris GPU) can handle the same tasks without breaking a sweat.

@VanKurt That‘s amazing I‘ll have to try that soon :)

@iiiiciiii The freezing issues are fully gone. I have tested several workloads (video streaming, browsing, 3D CAD, gaming...) for several hours without any issues. Awesome!

@VanKurt Have you had any issues since running stable in your last post?

All good now. Created the entry for linux-mainline-um5606 and it all works now. Thanks @VanKurt and @That1Calculator. Appreciate your help

Great to know I wasnt off the mark. What I have to figure out now is why I dont have the option to select this kernel at boot. In /boot/loader/entries/ i can only see 2 entries which appear on the boot menu. 2025-01-09_22-26-41_linux.conf and 2025-01-09_22-26-41_linux-fallback.conf.

I can see initramfs-linux-mainline-um5606.img in /boot but somehow it is not in the entries.

At least I know the problem I have to find a solution for. Thanks so much for your help

It is the "right thing". After it installs (depending on your hardware, it may take 20-40 minutes!) and then reboot and select the appropriate option from your GRUB/systemd-boot menu.

@That1Calculator Thanks for pointing this out. Any pointers on how to run this kernel? The wiki says "as long as you install linux-mainline-um5606AUR". So I use yay, it takes a fair bit of time to run through it all but it obviously isnt getting the correct thing

That1Calculator commented on 2025-01-11 04:56 (UTC)

@kad07 the audio fix is in the 6.13 series. Youre not running this kernel – please take your questions elsewhere since this is no longer about this package.

Thanks @VanKurt. uname -r shows 6.12.8-arch1-1. From the wiki, I believe installing linux-mainline-um5606 was meant to make it work. I installed it with yay but sound still doesnt work. I am probably not doing something right but this is a fresh so not sure what to do next
