Hi, I've compiled the package but there is something strange. It tries to install a 'mt7650u' module not 'mt7610u'. Easy to correct but maybe it's a typo? The module is now installed on my notebook and it activates the dongle (asus ac51), i'm now trying to connect but it's for another story :)

@edh The crash only happens when the dongle is inserted and module installed, without it i can modprobe the driver and it will just sit there not causing any ruckus. Inserting the dongle with the driver uninstalled does nothing as well. Only when you do both the fun starts.

@kaszak696 Admittedly it is really quite astonishing that one module breaks the whole kernel. This should not even happen in case the dongle really is broken. Just a quick follow up question: Does the system breaks as well if the module is not loaded but the stick is inserted?

Okay, so here are mu findings so far. I tried the vanilla and LTS kernels from the repo, both crash like zen. Then i searched github and tried a few other repositories, most did not even compile, except this one: https://github.com/xtknight/mt7610u-linksys-ae6000-wifi-fixes . Still, kernel completely dies as soon as the dongle is inserted into USB. It's quite impressive to be honest, a single USB driver bringing the entire Linux kernel to it's knees xD. At this point i suspect my dongle is simply broken, as it started to cause issues in Windows as well. I'll exchange it on warranty and see if it gets better. Kudos to ASUS, from all these nice wireless chip manufacturers, they chose that MediaTek trash. Sigh, i really should research stuff i buy... Rant mode off, i'll report if anything changes.

@kaszak696 Unfortunatly I think you are right :( Whish you best of luck with such a sever problem. I hope you manage to extact more information.

@edh The problem is that as soon as i insert the dongle into USB port, my entire system freezes and i can't extract any logs. If i try to boot with the dongle, it just gives me a cryptic backtrace and reboots immediately. I'll try to do some troubleshotting when i have time, although expecting MediaTek to fix their code is as productive as yelling at clouds :p

@kaszak696 It works for me... It gives some errors which definitely should have been fixed by the developers but it does work though. However I use the stock Arch Linux kernel 4.4.1 and you may encounter different results on other kernels. Just post your errors (maybe to pastebin or something similiar) and one might find a fix.

Does this module work for you? It causes kernel panic when i try to use it with ASUS USB-AC51 in kernel linux-zen 4.4.1.

@edh thanks. Patch was accepted.

I implemented my suggested improvements in my own fork of this AUR-git-repo as subtree in my package repo [0]. Please feel free to import the changes! (I would still be glad to be co-maintainer ;D) [0] https://github.com/Edenhofer/abs/tree/master/mt7610u_wifi_sta
