It is an error in documentation. Default ist encryption enabled on windows, disabled on all other systems. See: https://lists.openafs.org/pipermail/openafs-info/2013-July/039775.html http://gerrit.openafs.org/10111 (fix for manpage) https://lists.openafs.org/pipermail/openafs-info/2012-November/038984.html Until the solution of the last link is implemented upstream, I suggest just keeping encryption enabled by default on Arch. It doesn't make much sense to me to use a world wide filesystem without data encryption.

@Bevan: Thanks. I'm curious what the openafs-developers will say. - Maybe you could keep us updated ...

@simmel: Exactly what I thought but in fact it seems to be disabled by default. Try running "fs getcrypt". For me it shows "clear", so no encryption is used. For me this seems to be a bug either in OpenAFS or the man page. I will post to the mailing list and ask what the proposed behaviour is. All the other init scripts seem to set this flag, so it makes sense to add it to the service file, too. I will upload a new pkgrel in a second...

I would suggest to add the line ExecStartPost=/usr/bin/fs setcrypt on to the systemd-service-file openafs-client.service to have data-encryption enabled by default.

$ man fs_setcrypt [...] The default encryption status is enabled. [...] So no need.
