Every time I upgrade kernel I need to recompile openfs, that is fine. I rebuild and try to start the service but always get the error from systemctl. Warning: Unit file of openafs-client.service changed on disk, 'systemctl daemon-reload' recommended. But is it possible to to make the openafs.install file do this reloading, or is this against some pkgbuild guidelines?

Wow, thanks for getting all this information for me! I understood that it was probably this strict_type thing, but I did not succeed to find/create the patch needed. I will try again, and sorry for the noise!

@Eothred: The module compiles fine on 3.12.6 on Arch. The problem seems to be the kernel setting CONFIG_UIDGID_STRICT_TYPE_CHECKS. It is set on Chakra[1] but not on Arch[2]. You could try compiling your own kernel without that option or you can use a 1.6.6 prerelease of openafs that should fix the issue[3]. This package compiles fine for you with Linux 3.12.6? I maintain a similar package for Chakra GNU/Linux (also uses pacman/makepkg for the moment), and for me it fails with errors of the kind: error: incompatible types when assigning to type ‘kgid_t’ from type ‘gid_t’ That is, the 'make' command finishes (so exit value 0 I suppose, not very nice), but the installation target fails because it cannot find openafs.ko.

That would be indeed very good!

Will openafs anytime soon migrate to the [community] repository?

Bevan commented on 2013-09-03 20:34 (UTC)

@totsilence: Yeah, these two are the right ones. I hoped that ver. 1.6.6 would be released before linux 3.11 hits our testing repo. I think I will release a new pkgrel in a moment.

Hey Bevan, business as usual: openafs needs patching with Linux 3.11 I found the following two patches: http://gerrit.openafs.org/#change,10118 (already reviewed and merged) http://gerrit.openafs.org/#change,10219 (not yet merged) I don't know if there are more, I'm not good at searching gerrit :) Cheers Bastian
