I believe forced version downgrade requires using epoch version: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PKGBUILD#epoch

@yochananmarqos, I know, right? Once they sort this out, we'll get a new, higher version. I don't have any HDR hw transcoding, so I don't plan on downgrading personally.

@fryfrog: 1.32.5.7516-1 < 1.32.7.7484-1. Wot’s… Uh the Deal?

@erylflynn: Have you tried it w/o that parameter? I'm like 85% sure it is not preserving the owner of the files during packaging, like where you run makepkg. Otherwise, they'd end up owned as your user since the build and package stage runs as you.

What use case is there for the package files not to be owned by root, as is good and proper and ordained by god? I can see having the data itself owned by another user (in fact, it should be plex for everyone).

Curious, in the package build for the cp step you have the --no-preserve set for ownership. In some cases it is better to run the plex service as a different user, and with this it would overwrite the owner every time you update.

Is there a bigger reason or can that be dropped from the package build?

I was able to fix the problem I was having (which seems the same as XenGi was having) like this:

$ sudo systemctl daemon-reexec
$ sudo systemctl start plexmediaserver

roknir commented on 2022-03-02 06:03 (UTC)

I'm seeing the same problem as XenGi too.

XenGi commented on 2022-02-26 16:55 (UTC)

Plex doesn't start anymore and gives these errors in the journal:

plexmediaserver.service: Failed to determine user credentials: No such process
plexmediaserver.service: Failed at step USER spawning /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex Media Server: No such process

I'm not sure what this means. What user credentials is it trying to find?

j1simon: What happens if you remove the link to the hook in /etc first? The package does not create that link, its something the user can do if they like. I'll also poke around on a test system and see what do.

Edit: Oh duh, the removal of the package removes the target of the hook. You manually created the hook, so I think it is fair you manually remove it. The package does successfully remove.

pacman shows an error when I uninstall this program:

$ sudo pacman -Rnsc plex-media-server-plexpass
....
error: could not retrieve information from /etc/pacman.d/hooks/plexmediaserver.hook: File or directory does not exist.
....

/etc/pacman.d/hooks/plexmediaserver.hook is a link to /usr/share/doc/plex-media-server-plexpass/plexmediaserver.hook
