Updates:

The new official Linux CLI client is now available. Source code and AUR protonvpn-cli. Please upgrade to this client if possible.

As for this community version, I think it should be maintained here for a while longer as there have still been git changes over the last week. The latest version is 2.2.11. This package is now marked as conflicting with the official protonvpn-cli package.

Note: if upstream changes and the checksum needs to be updated, please try clean building to prevent caches from interfering.

@calexandru2018 At the moment the upstream isn't including any checksums or PGP signatures for releases. I'm hoping that will change soon: https://github.com/ProtonVPN/protonvpn-cli-ng/issues/72.

calexandru2018 commented on 2020-04-19 12:37 (UTC)

Could you also add the md5checksum ?

exprez135 commented on 2020-03-03 16:36 (UTC)

@joelostblom They were. Just unpinned the comment. This is the new version and is not deprecated. Thanks!

@ddnomad Just checking if the comments about the deprecation were inherited from the old version of the AUR package since this appears to be the new protonvpn-cli-ng version, not the deprecated protonvpn-cli version.

@jogdand Pinned deprecation warning here in comments + updated package description to direct people to NG package.

Do not think I should remove this package completely though, as ProtonVPN developers themselves decided to keep protonvpn-cli as is and name a new version protonvpn-cli-ng, which is consistent with how both AUR packages are currently named.

Thank you for pinging me to update the package though :) Merry Christmas!

Please note that this package is considered deprecated by ProtonVPN developers as new Python version of a client was released.

Deprecated (https://github.com/ProtonVPN/protonvpn-cli#deprecation-warning)

@ddnomad, Can we replace this by 'ng' version. OR atleast, add the deprecation info in description.

Thanks for maintaining. I feel this PKGBUILD is more of a -git style development package, so I believe you should point the source to the tarball releases at https://github.com/ProtonVPN/protonvpn-cli-ng/releases and remove git from the makedepends.

exprez135 commented on 2019-11-27 16:57 (UTC)

Working on that now. Just added python-pythondialog and python-setuptools. Thank you for the help.

Daerandin commented on 2019-11-27 16:54 (UTC)

You may want to add a few more dependencies to this PKGBUILD. I could see three external python libraries imported:

python-docopt python-pythondialog python-requests

These should be added to the "depends" array in the PKGBUILD.
