Just checked some other packages, they add python-poetry-core to makedepends and set the GIT_CEILING_DIRECTORIES environment variable. Code from python-requests-cache:

  # Note: set `GIT_CEILING_DIRECTORIES` to prevent poetry
  # from incorrectly using a parent git checkout info.
  # https://github.com/pypa/build/issues/384#issuecomment-947675975
  GIT_CEILING_DIRECTORIES="${PWD}/.." python -m build --wheel --skip-dependency-check --no-isolation

This seems to fix it.

The package is currently broken, the issue is a bid weird [0]. Adding python-setuptools as a dependency does not help, unfortunately.
