To all having an issue with this driver: please try https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtl88xxau-aircrack-dkms-git alternatively.

Ok, I merged th package and made you comaintainer. Feel free to be the sole maintainer. I disowned the package since it hasn't been updated by the original submitter in more than a year. Please now also create a rtl8821au-dkms-git so that I can use that as the base for all the other packages to merge into that one. Also, please update this packages sources as it sadly kept the original old ones. You might also want to update any relevant wiki articles

I'm now merging this package into rtl8812au-dkms-git as well as the other relevant packages. Let's clean this thing up.

Nope, not ever.

@Svenstaro: by the way, have you ever been able to change the txpower for your device? If yes, which package, or version of the driver, were you using?

zebulon commented on 2017-09-09 11:53 (UTC)

@Svenstaro: yes the Makefile seems to be able to activate a lot of chipsets. But this is misleading: the src and hal code are often incomplete and can only be used for one or two chipsets. Furthermore the firmware as well may be chipset-specific, hence the situation where 5.2.9 does not work on 8821au devices. I suspect Realtek do not bother too much and simply copy over the Makefile, but then do chipset-specific packages for the rest of the code.

I saw that this driver config has lots of config options for other drivers such as for building rtl8821 and many others. Did you look at that? Don't you think that might work?

@Svenstaro: I understand now for git. I think git is useful here because these drivers are continuously patched for kernels and bugs. I'll create the missing Git repo. What about 8811au? Imagno has just reported he can make it work with the rtl8811au driver (which works for 8821, 8812 and 8811 with driver 5.1.5), and have updated the documentation. As of now, rtl8811au-dkms package would be identical to rtl8821au-dkms. I am happy to maintain it too, however is it possible to simply point these users to rtl8821au-dkms? Or would it be preferable to have a rtl8821_8812_8811au-dkms? Although I dislike these long names it would make it clear what this driver supports. But this could lead to confusion for 8812au...

@Svenstaro: it seems that some firmwares are blocked for changing the txpower. However I do not know if this is the case here, and anyway it should allow up to 30. I am also stuck at 14. I will try to see how to correct this, but it may be a bug in the firmware itself, for which we have no control.

I looked into this. Judging by what grepping for "TX_POWER_TO_MAX" gives you, one wants to end up with this #define branch: #elif defined(CONFIG_CALIBRATE_TX_POWER_TO_MAX) #undef CONFIG_TXPWR_BY_RATE_EN #undef CONFIG_TXPWR_LIMIT_EN #define CONFIG_TXPWR_BY_RATE_EN 1 #define CONFIG_TXPWR_LIMIT_EN 0 #endif
