As mentioned in @seyn6gk's comment

Without changing anything, since teamviewer 13 a desktop environment/login with display manager like lightdm/sddm/gdm is required.

startx users can follow workaround mentioned in @r7v s comment

r7v commented on 2022-06-07 14:49 (UTC)

Workaround for startx

Create drop-in /etc/systemd/system/getty@tty1.service.d/getty@tty1.service-drop-in.conf with

[Service]
Environment=XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11

I have to reboot just restarting daemon wasn't enough. same here. this here was *NOT* enough: sudo pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/lib32-freetype2/lib32-freetype2-2.8-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz sudo systemctl daemon-reload sudo systemctl restart teamviewerd Teamviewer does not start. reboot was required and afterwards the TV GUI started to work for me again.

@PhotonX > (if that's not exactly what @max.bra did in his -7 snapshot) yes, it is

@cimarronline, @swiftgeek: Maybe it is possible to include the necessary freetype2 files into the teamviewer package if they don't conflict with the new freetype2 version (if that's not exactly what @max.bra did in his -7 snapshot)?

max.bra commented on 2017-10-23 10:21 (UTC)

@cimarronline totally agreed. if a simply and possible solution is doable, it's not possible for an AUR package to block system updates. for those interested, this is a snapshot of a theoretical teamviewer 12.0.85001-7: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kglzs69adnq80hd/teamviewer-12.0.85001-7.zip?dl=0

Perhaps a more "proper" solution would be to download the lib32-freetype2 2.8 package, unpack, and place the three files/links from /usr/lib32 into /opt/teamviewer/tv_bin/wine/lib. Then no other packages need to be downgraded or held back.

pschichtel commented on 2017-10-21 20:31 (UTC)

You could trick teamviewer into using latest wine (requires wine + wine-mono installed) by symlinking /opt/teamviewer/tv_bin/wine/bin/{wine,wineserver,wine-preloader} to the system binaries (/usr/bin/{wine,wineserver,wine-preloader}). Doing this allowed me to connect to remote systems, but clients were unable to properly connect to my system.

Is there any proper solution (not involving holding back package updates) for this?
