Do we really need fontconfig<2.8.1 (it's so old that it's not even on Arch Linux Archive), or is this requirement actually on freetype2?

The reason it works with infinality-patched freetype, is that the package has not been updated to freetype 2.8.1. It worked for me after downgrading to normal 2.8.0 *and restarting my system* (Removing a library from disk doesn't remove it from memory).
The issue is probably the same that affected gnome 2.0: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43715 (fixed in 2.0.3).

Does this mean it's compiled against lib32-freetype2-infinality-ultimate and freetype2-infinality-ultimate from the aur instead the freetype2 packages in the official repos? They're not listed in the dependencies in the pkgbuild. Thanks.
EDIT: The service restarts for me w/o reboot however, had to add an auto-start in Xfce Session and Startup for TeamViewer as the GUI otherwise doesn't auto-start (since after 11.0.67687-4) even though within the app it is set to "start with system".

Downgrading lib32-freetype2 worked for me too!
boerde commented on 2017-10-18 18:21 (UTC)
For me it is only working by installing "lib32-freetype2-infinality-ultimate".

As mentioned in @seyn6gk's comment
Without changing anything, since teamviewer 13 a desktop environment/login with display manager like lightdm/sddm/gdm is required.
startx
users can follow workaround mentioned in @r7v s commentr7v commented on 2022-06-07 14:49 (UTC)
Workaround for startx
Create drop-in
/etc/systemd/system/getty@tty1.service.d/getty@tty1.service-drop-in.conf
