code.as appears to be up again for now, but hopefully they'll get all their repos in one place at some point and not have two different versioning schemes for this project. Sorry for the trouble.

I'm trying to come up with a workaround, but note that there are at least three different issues with the GitHub version of writeas-gtk that make the build fail. For more information see this somewhat hastily written issue (I'll also ping the authors of write.as when they're next online): https://github.com/writeas/writeas-gtk/issues/34

I'll try again to update this to GitHub, but the GitHub version of the GTK client is not the same as the code.as version and has different tags. Unless they can resolve some of the differences I don't think there's a good way to switch between them (apparently the GitHub version is only for Elementary OS, but I am not sure why these would be different or require different and confusing versioning schemes). The entire write.as ecosystem is a bit inconsistent sometimes and it can make package maintenance difficult. I'll reach out to them if necessary and advise on a fix soon.

code.as is down, I e-mailed them:
""" Thanks for the heads up. We actually host most of our open source repos on GitHub, so the correct URL there would be: https://github.com/writeas/writefreely
Was there some place where we're linking to those broken links on code.as? If so, could you send them so we can update them?
Thanks, Matt """
So please update the upstream repo to GitHub!

@gambas This works fine for me even if I manually try to enable building a PIE. I'm using a slightly newer version of meson though. Could you update to 0.49.2 and tell me if that fixes it? The patch that fixes it in meson was merged recently, so it's possible that it fixes it for you.
I really hate dealing with little niche single purpose languages and build systems… sigh sorry for the trouble.
