@dschauer, not tested but I think it's not needed anymore with kernel 3.1 which get a correct version string. ;)

@Scullder, I'm on arch64 and I got around the 2 digit kernel numbering by prefixing the bootstrap call with 'linux64 --uname-2.6' which makes the kernel version show up as 2.6.40 instead of 3.0. If on arch32 I assume you would use linux32 or some other equivalent command. Well, setarch is the real command.

kamui57, you can create a very simple wrapper script (for Bash or your own shell of choice) that only handles uname's -r argument and passes all other arguments to the real uname tool. You just have to make sure that your wrapper script is on PATH and called before the real uname. I was able to successfully dist-upgrade my Lenny chroot to Squeeze with that script. Good luck. :)
