DO NOT report issues if you’re using an AUR helper (including Pamac aka Add/Remove Software). If you have a problem, build it manually and see if you can reproduce the issue.

Please don't spam the comments if the package is out of date. Just flag it out of date.

Same as @jlevers and @newsboost. Build fails both with paru and manually.

jlevers commented on 2021-09-25 20:18 (UTC)

I'm having the same issue as @newsboost, and I run into the problem both when I build the package manually and when I try to install it using pamac.

newsboost commented on 2021-09-17 17:02 (UTC) (edited on 2021-09-17 17:04 (UTC) by newsboost)

Hi, sorry. I don't understand this: "DO NOT report issues if you’re using an AUR helper...". Why? I thought all aur-packages were supposted to work using AUR helpers. In this case I can upgrade EVERYTHING else on my system, except this package. I'm using yay and get:

Don't understand this. Appreciate any help, thanks!

@power_frontier I believe I found the origin of the problem. It may be on the .gitignore and the git mechanism. If you, for some reason have edited one of the files (e.g. the PKGBUIKD file), the git mechanism does not allow you to do a git pull and obtain the newest version, because it detects you have a change in your local repository, and you need, at least to stash to do a git pull. Consequently, your AUR helper (pamac, etc) fails in obtaining the newest version and keeps trying to install the old version. I found this while trying to manually do a git pull at the:

/var/tmp/pamac-build-<your user here>/imagemagick6

Git was not allowing a git pull due to a previous change at the PKGBUILD file I really did (by using the pamac e option to edit the file). I am still trying to understand why this does not happen to other packages, which also leave stuff at /var/tmp/pamac-build-<your user here>/ directory. I have many packages there, but this package, for some reason, is the only one giving trouble. But @power_frontier, you are right. By only doing a

rm -rf /var/tmp/pamac-build-<your user here>/imagemagick6

before trying to update solves the problem, because then this directory is regenerated in your next update and this fixes the problem. @yochananmarqos sorry for reporting something related to an AUR helper, but I felt this might be a piece of information that might help others with the same problem, and I can see I was not the only one having them. Also, I don't know if you can change something either in .gitignore or another configuration at the .git subdirectory to avoid this. But I believe the problem is somewhat associated with git not allowing a git pull, after you edit any file at the directory.

@gudwin @politas I had the same problem during the last 2 or 3 upgrades using pamac from Manjaro, but today I just cleaned the pamac aur cache and it get upgraded ok.

Again ... the same bug ! In order to install I had to manually edit:

after doing "pamac update" when it asks if I want to edit the PKGBUILD I selected 'e' (for editing) and then edited the following variables:

_pkgver=6.9.12-21
sha256sums=('5e5b238bb34849e7b2ac3916074768ea72e1a915500dcada78064059e95ca0a7'
            'a85b744c61b1b563743ecb7c7adad999d7ed9a8af816650e3ab9321b2b102e73')

Apparently, there is some bug, which does not delete the last PKGBUILD and then pamac tries to rebuild the last one instead of the new one. Pretty annoying

politas commented on 2021-09-05 19:53 (UTC)

Update to 6.9.12.21-1 once again required a reset of the build files.

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Is there a step missing in the build script to clean up the old build files at the end of the build, or something like that?
