Please consider applying patch for python3.12 to fix warnings https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/py312-syntax-warning.patch?h=archey3

The pkgbase has to be from the same upstream developer. Otherwise, it does not make sense.

There is no such rule for AUR.

Merging the comments and votes from an earlier package to its successor fork is very common, when the older upstream is terminally discontinued and is abandoned for many years.

MarsSeed commented on 2023-08-04 10:16 (UTC)

GitHub is different than AUR.

Hence, the AUR merge request is not comparable to the mechanisms supported by GitHub.

Also please look up the definition of spamming. And please don't use that, falsely, and unilaterally, against my comments. When you send a message, it is not spam, but when I legitimately respond to your message, it is spam?

@MarsSeed Again, you are spamming.
The pkgbase has to be from the same upstream developer. Otherwise, it does not make sense.
Did the archey4 upstream dev ask GitHub to merge the stars from the archey3 GitHub repo and put them on his GitHub repo?
No, GitHub does not do that as well. See, you don't make sense.

In case you didn't know - an AUR merge is a:

Request to delete a pkgbase and transfer its votes and comments to another pkgbase.

@MarsSeed

This AUR package should be deleted

Not sure what you want. You requested a merge, now you want a deletion...

The advantage with -git packages is we know when they are updated.
Sometimes, developers no longer submit releases, and they only submit changes on the git master branch.
It is the case for the web server h2o and for the DHCPv6 client dibbler which I maintain on the AUR.
- https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/h2o; - https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dibbler-git.

As a matter of fact, dibbler has not had a release since 2015, and was not really updated these last three years (since 2020),
but it did receive some major updates recently and is having a draft PR by the main author.

I contacted the primary author of archey3 to know his intent and I will keep you posted: this is the first showstopper before any action.

You can contact the Trusted User Felix Yan who maintain the releases version of archey3 to see if he agrees to a package deletion of both archey3 and archey3-git.
That is in fact the second showstopper before any action (merge, deletion).

This AUR package should be deleted, because it is a developmental VCS package, and upstream hasn't been developed since 5 years, and the Arch repo carries the exact same version as this.

@HLFH, please look up the definition of spamming. One comment or one flagging message is not mass repeated message sending. Please stop framing me by implying untrue things. Thank you.

HLFH commented on 2023-08-02 08:15 (UTC)

@MarsSeed And stop spamming please. You have already mentioned the fork one year ago.

@MarsSeed This git package is up-to-date with the upstream repo https://github.com/lclarkmichalek/archey3.
