To get CDE working start rpcbind.service and (optional) dtlogin.service. Also follow tip at the end of installation.

CDE compiled & started successfully. Modifying PKGBUILD and releasing today.

nope, failed. unfortunately this isn't going very well. I might have to hand this package to someone more qualified to maintain this package.
