for anyone interested, I managed to source the plugin a bit more directly so this no longer requires a full browser download.

Folks, this package is designed to collect the widevine plugin from chromium for use by other applications. See the required by section to see that it is currently required by several applications that do not self-inclide it for various reasons.

While I won't argue whether it is named correctly, or whether it should be removed, I can clearly see that removing it would be disruptive to several other packages.

Chromium downloads ~/.config/chromium/WidevineCdm automatically. It it able to use the system for build process of this package instead of using tarball of google-chrome?

Current version of widevine is 4.10.2830.0. Can be derived from google-chrome-stable_129.0.6668.70-1_amd64.deb. Just change '_chrome_ver' in the PKGBUILD:

_chrome_ver=129.0.6668.70
