@cartogan what distribution and JDK do you use? I tried 1.8 (my default) and 17 (from jdk-openjdk) on Arch, both work fine.

@laurent_waro It looks to me like a weird behavior of pacman: it recognizes that electron does no longer provide electron16, but it's unable to install electron16.

@laurent_waro why do you say that electron 17 breaks electron16? you should be able to have installed both at the same time.

Update to electron (17.1.0-1) break electron16 which is an drawio-desktop's dependency

EDIT: Ignore this, it seems to have been a one-time quirk. Builds fine now.

Building drawio-desktop 16.5.1-1 fails with

drawio-16.5.1/etc/build/build.xml:19: java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "com.google.javascript.jscomp.parsing.parser.trees.ParseTreeType.ordinal()" because "tree.type" is null
[about 50 more lines of java error message]

@benjamb sure, but I had to wait for electron 16.0.5+ in Arch repo due to dialog window fixes

Looks like upstream updated to using electron 16: https://github.com/jgraph/drawio-desktop/compare/v16.0.2...v16.1.2#diff-51e4f558fae534656963876761c95b83b6ef5da5103c4adef6768219ed76c2deR890

@CBX There are three separate known issues with native windows (i.e. file dialog). * Variation used in drawio crashes with electron14+. It was fixed in upstream * Variation used in drawio is silently broken in electron14+ for Linux. It was fixed by both upstream an myself with downgrading electron. * Variation used in drawio creates windows below the main window. This one persists across some upstream builds as well (i.e. Appimage) and I believe the wast majority of electron software out there uses a different (and not so broken) variation of dialog window calls.

If it's something different, could you please give some more info on what exactly is broken and how to reproduce it?

can confirm erratic behavior as described by @jensp
