Hey, so for people who can not use etlegacy (punkbuster or etpro) and want to play with sound:

After some experiements and reading stuff online:

Use official installation for game:

et-sdl-sound from here:

Install multilib SDL 1.2 (DOES NOT WORK WITH SDL2.x or with 64bit SDL 1.2)

Good luck!

Sound doesn't work for me ...

------- sound initialization ------- /dev/dsp: No such file or directory Could not open /dev/dsp

I did everything mentioned on ET archwiki, I also did everything mentioned on ALSA archwiki (
I also did what @tazz mentioned in last comment.

Still no sound ;/ Anybody?

Tazz commented on 2019-05-01 07:46 (UTC)

No sound ? No problem wget chmod a+x et-sdl-sound edit GAME_DIR .. it work for me. 2019 still ppl play it Lol..I know there is ET:Legacy mod that fix many bugs include sound "but the mod is so bugy" and you can't play Etpro mod. I am wondering what somehow to merge this file from the binaries

cookiengineer You can use this page to generate a valid Etkey too:

commented on 2018-08-23 14:13 (UTC)

The etkey binary is broken, it's a legacy shell script that doesn't run anymore. The requirements for this keygen are the "ntp" package and awk. Also, you have to "touch /var/db/ntp-kod" via root, otherwise the keygen will fail and do some shit you ain't want it to.

I refactored the keygen so it doesn't require a "dialog" binary anymore and just generates a new key without bothering the user too much:

omfg what is wrong with u people.. where is the rage?

how can u play without sound

this doesent work either

cuz i get error : can't locate

and btw im wondering why et-sdl-sound is optional when its absolutely needed, is there really anyone who plays without sound? ;/

also i have problem with vsync

i see like every half second it goes from max fps to 60 fps and constantly the same, well i dont know where is setting in game for that or if there any at all

but i tried to put (all at once) in ~/.nvidia-settings-rc

SyncToVBlank=0 and

0/SyncToVBlank=0 and also

yet nothing works

EDIT: ok vsync problem no longer true because after nvidia update yesterday (12.08.2018) i have max fps what i specified in config and it doesent drop at all

but sound problem still remains so i cant play

makepkg is running strip on the installed binaries. Although there isn't anything to strip, it still changes a handful of bytes in the file. This changes the checksum of the file, which in turn breaks et-sdl-sound, which uses checksums to map binaries to specific versions of games.
