I will not update (for now) to the latest version 7.3.6.9326 because it crashes continuously for me.

Thanks, unfortunate timing then.

For reference, with Gnome shell / wayland I need to

unset QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME
unset QT_QPA_PLATFORM

to avoid

Google Earth has caught signal 6.

Oh, aren't you sweet. Well. I'll either have it downloaded manually or just link it in the license.

Hard URLs, I guess... http://earth.google.com/intl/en-US/license.html http://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/earth/license.html

Seems that way.

Not at all. I've put this on a few machines over the last couple of years and never a hitch with checksums or licenses until now. Maybe google have changed their approach?

Wow. That's so different from mine. This the first time you're installing Google Earth, then?

Cheers Det. I'm in England. Your first sentence goes without saying, but I'm embarassed to say I hadn't considered the obvious - different licences for different countries. Here's the text: http://pastebin.com/wVDdb3aM

Thank-you, for the pastebin, but I still hate you.

Well, installing a license, even with a bad md5sum, doesn't do squat to the actual application so you're kind of free to install it even if it doesn't match. The problem is that you're downloading it from a different server, which gives you a different license than mine. I've included the license in both packages for now. You mind uploading yours and telling me the country you're getting it from?
