Firmware is available from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/plugin/hplip-3.17.7-plugin.run and package builds with this version.

That's odd. There's usually only a couple of days between the upstream hplip and hplip-plugin releases. Upstream hplip released 3.17.7 on July 25.
I wonder if there's something going on upstream with the hplip-plugin code?

As long as hplip 3.17.4 is still in [Testing] please don't flag this package out-of-date!

Hey, I've adopted this package and applied some of the suggestions:
libusb-compatandsane(cred @ZhandHua).Depend on exact version ofhplip(cred @jsn42).In addition, the PGP-signature of the artifact is now checked, which means you need to fetch upstream's key:
Unfortunately, I have no HP printer at home so my testing ability is limited to running
hp-diagnose_plugin. If someone has better opportunity to test and is interested in maintaining, let me know and I'll handover the package or add you as a co-maintainer. Cheers!
