Please do not flag as outdated: this is the latest free version. When you start Master PDF Editor it will say that there is a newer version but it is a 5.x version, and since 5.x had been introduced a watermark. If you want the latest non-free version please refer to:

Can someone tell me what's needed to get the OCR working? I copied the whole content of to ~/.masterpdfeditor/tessdata/. The OCR goes through the whole document really fast, but it never finds anything.

It's not possible to Add Text (CTRL + T). It closes the program. I'm using LibreOffice Draw to circumvent this drawback.

(edit) After using for a while, it was probably an one time thing. It's back to normal after a reboot and text is working.

@KarlFiabeschi it prevents to look for updates at startup. This is the latest version without watermark but it's still an old version, so without that /etc/hosts rule you will be notified about a new version each time you start the program.

DPDmancul why this post install script append that entry on /etc/hosts?

Installed but won't open. I try to launch from GNOME and nothing happens.

EDIT: nevermind, I think I had the other version installed without realizing it

it would be nice if install script adds a comment regarding the new entry added to /etc/hosts

If you can't download OCR, get them from here:

Put them in: /home/$USER/.masterpdfeditor/tessdata/

I've used this recently and it works normally. No watermarks. No missing dependencies.

@kirk It seems that it's a MPDFE bug (also in v5). Good news is that, when you save, all the pages not edited stay like the original, so if you have to edit a docuement in pages that doesn't contain that plots you can use MPDFE4 without any problem.
