m040601: I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying using mepo as much as I am! Thank you for catching this. I removed these make dependencies one by one, and the only one that seems to break
mepo
is the absence ofsdl2_gfx
. The other two did not prevent mepo from running when uninstalled on my system, and I've updated the pkgbuild to makesdl2_gfx
a runtime dependency. The other two will remain make dependencies unless this still breaks anything for you.m040601 commented on 2023-03-21 23:30 (UTC) (edited on 2023-03-21 23:48 (UTC) by m040601)
Just noticed this.
Currently this PKGBUILD has these 3, as "make" dependencies,
As "make" dependencies, they are not necessary to keep in your system after the PKGBUILD has been buil. I usually choose to remove them.
Today after I cleaned my system of unneeded packages I noticed this trying to run mepo
What ?
So I went back and,
But it kept complaining about the other two. So I also installed them.
In the end it seems,
Are not "make" dependencies, but "real" depondencies
Am I right ?

Finally got to test it with version 1.1.2.1. This time it built. Didn't see any errors.
Fantastic package ! Just like I suspected. Let's hope that with enough votes this could be turned into an official Arch package.
Really enjoying it. Really snappy with the GPU acceleration... On my 14 year PC ...
Finally, one of the fastest and "suckless" Openstreet map tools.
Now, let's read that man page and spend some test testing all that "mepolang" and scripting capabilities ...

thanks for the issue reports emulti, the issues have been fixed and it now builds for me out of the box

A couple of small issues with the PKGBUILD of mepo 1.1-2:
the patch doesn't apply because it is two folder levels above the $pkname-$pkgver folder, and is anyway duplicated by the sed command in package()
the sed command in package() needs to be after the "install scripts/mepo_* "$pkgdir/usr/bin/" " line
checksums needed to be updated
With these changes, the package built correctly for me.

Thanks for your feedback, m040601! I didn't mean to push the 1.1.1 update to Mepo because it's based on zig 0.10 which is not yet available on Arch linux. I'll roll back these changes and mark the package as out-of-date for the time being until zig is updated by the arch maintainers.
Also, I think the suggestion to coordinate with the maintainer of mepo-git is a great idea, I'll get on that right away.

Thanks for providing this PKGBUILD.
Nice that it is also meant to be supported on arm.
I'm not sure about that "arm" there. Does it include my "armv7h" Archlinux ARM raspberry pi and chromebook ?
Anyway Really wanted to try this on my x86 desktop, since it's made by the guy working on postmarketos/sxmo
Unfortunately this PKGBUILD currrently fails to build on my system
I'm not sure if the error is with "mepo" itself or with one of its (gigantic) dependencies
By the way, wouldnt the maintainer of this "mepo" PKGBUILD like to coordinate/share with the maintainer of the PKGBUILD "mepo-git" , https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mepo-git ? It would be more usefull to have 2 pairs of eyes instead of reduplicating the work.

Thanks @emulti for your report, I'll fix those issues right away. Also, waiting for Zig 1.10 to be available from the official repo so that's preventing this being updated to 1.1.1.
edit: desktop file and icon are now installed, and i added a patch to the pin updater script fixing the geoclue issue. i decided to include this as a patch because i soon want to upstream changes that automatically look for geoclue in the right locations on more systems. these changes will be pushed as soon as zig updates to 0.10 and i can tag mepo 1.1.1

A couple of minor issues with the PKGBUILD
.desktop file and icons are not installed
Geoclue agent is looked-for in /usr/libexec due to hard-coded paths in scripts/usr/bin/mepo_ui_menu_user_pin_updater.sh

0.5 has been released. the zig version check is no longer needed on aarch64 devices, not sure whether you should remove it or not, because zig hasnt been updated to 0.9.1 for armv7h devices yet. also keep in mind that in the next milestone, 1.0, the mepo package is splitting into
mepo
andmepo-scripts
in the pmOS repos. the former containing only the base application and the latter containing the auxiliary scripts. we may want to follow suit when that happens. thanks!edit: here's a link to my edited pkgbuild. whether to remove the patch is up to you! https://paste.sr.ht/~hamblingreen/0a99c2beb215ba3888a1bfe134e60c3169968acd
