For me, /etc/utmp does not exist either... just so I know how to construct the check, please use the virgin script (i.e. without your modifications) and post the exact output of you calling the script. Thanks!

looks like it reads the login name from /etc/utmp. This file currently does not exist for me.

I am running arch. I use the -zen kernel...I'm not sure if that makes a difference. What sets the login name to begin with? I've unsuccessfully try to solve the in the past...

@jayflo - That is bizarre. Are you running Arch or another distro? I think I can write an override in the config file for you wherein you can specify the username. This is better than you modifying the script itself.

> logname logname: no login name >echo $? 1 As a temporary fix, I just modified the /usr/bin/modprobed-db script and replaced `$(logname)` with my login name. It works well...if I don't figure out whats wrong then I'll just have to remember to update it.
