This package replaces the previous 'mythtv' AUR package. It has been renamed to comply with Arch's VCS package guidelines.

I hope to update the various mythplugins AUR packages soon

@martyg: yeah, this is why the package got moved to the AUR - those packages are no longer in the repos, therefore pacman cannot find & install them. Nothing I can do about that, really...

If you are building without a helper, you will also need to pick up perl-net-upnp and urlgrabber from the AUR as dependencies.

First-timers, here is the place to start with building source out of AUR. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DeveloperWiki:Building_in_a_Clean_Chroot (You may want to practice on something smaller first :-))

@taijan: Thanks for maintaining this package.

sultanoswing; i had same with mythfrontend. i think you will have to remove any symlinks you made and upgrade system to current packages and then build myth from this aur pkgbld and you should be ok.

Taijian commented on 2018-01-14 12:28 (UTC)

I believe this got moved to the AUR because some of it's dependencies also got dropped and official packages may not depend on AUR packages.

grumble why was this dropped from official? grumble

Mythfrontend won't start up for me now: mythfrontend: error while loading shared libraries: libx264.so.148: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Have tried reinstalling libx264, all versions, no success. Symlinked the new version (152) against 148, but still doesn't work: mythfrontend: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libmythavcodec.so.57: undefined symbol: x264_encoder_open_148

WORKAROUND: downgrade libx264 to libx264-2:148.20170121-1, but this creates many other problems e.g. amarok won't start.

WORKAROUND 2: compile without libx264 (edit PKGBUILD and delete '--enable libx264')

Shouldn't there be a record somewhere of why the maintainers chose to move this long-time working package to the AUR? It was marked "orphan" but the upstream dev's have not stopped developing - they just don't release on a prescribed schedule. Was there some dependency that had to be updated or moved out of the regular Arch repository that the upstream would not do in the time-frame required? When they release 1:30 will that package be moved back to the regular repo or will it always be AUR now?

Why did this get moved to the AUR versus the regular Arch repository?

@Peterjs - Instead of a pacman helper (yaourt) try the direct method at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_User_Repository#Installing_packages. Note: on my older machine (AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 260 Processor) it took several hours to compile yet only a few minutes on my main workstation (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz),

Peterjs commented on 2018-01-08 16:16 (UTC) (edited on 2018-01-08 16:16 (UTC) by Peterjs)

Doesn't compile. Exists with the following statement ->

make[2]: Leaving directory '/tmp/yaourt-tmp-peter/aur-mythtv/src/mythtv-29.0/mythtv/libs/libmyth' make[1]: [Makefile:234: sub-libmyth-make_first] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory '/tmp/yaourt-tmp-peter/aur-mythtv/src/mythtv-29.0/mythtv/libs' make: [Makefile:67: libs] Error 2 ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build(). Aborting... ==> ERROR: Makepkg was unable to build mythtv.

Anything i can do to help out with this?
