I must be making a silly mistake. I've been issuing "yaourt -S plasma5-applet-awesome-widgets" and getting that error.

seems you didn't. According to the actual pkgbuild https://aur4.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/PKGBUILD?h=plasma5-applet-awesome-widgets the following link should be used: https://github.com/arcan1s/awesome-widgets/releases/download/V.2.3.3/awesome-widgets-2.3.3-src.tar.xz In your message 2.3.0 version is mentioned. It looks like you are using this PKGBUID: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pl/plasma5-applet-awesome-widgets/PKGBUILD

I've used the one (plasma5-applet-awesome-widgets) on this page (https://aur4.archlinux.org/packages/plasma5-applet-awesome-widgets/).

I believe you are using aur3 url (aur.archlinux.org). I didn't update the old packages.

jfyi the version 2.2.2 will be marked as stable for KF5. Hope it will be released soon
