Latest version now auto-activates when a fullscreen window is detected (I'll make this configurable in the next version if people want to disable this behaviour).

Yes, the intention is to carry on the proyect in a similar spirit to the original one - systray icon, being able to add specific programs, and detecting those that commonly don't disable the screensaver but "should" (eg: Flash). Flash detection was broken, so it's not working right now, but I'll get to it when I have time.
This specific package won't diverge really and mostly stay as-is. Actual work will be made on caffeine-ng, which is the fork I've started.

If someone could continue this work and improve it over time somewhat (better flash playing detection and let Caffeine be in affect only if a stream or a video is actually playing - and maybe add most commonly used video players to the Preferences list for out of the box use) and not go the way the original was made. That would be a good thing for all of us :)

After an upgrade to Python 3.11, you need to rebuild this package (and all Python packages in the AUR).
