gnome DE would crash if lock screen hotkey (i.e. Power + L) is pressed under gnome's activity (multitask) view or apps menu.

this could be reproduced by:

  1. log into gnome desktop
  2. make sure dash-to-dock is enabled in "Extensions"
  3. press power key once
  4. press power + L

with this patch (https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/pull/2219.patch) applied, the issue could be addressed.

despite it is actually gnome's bug, not dash-to-dock extension, but the pull request to gnome (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/merge_requests/3252) is not yet merged.

@mithanan, this was broken in v85. I reverted the PKGBUILD to v84. Thanks for reporting

Just noticed that changing the indicators to "dots" from "default" fixes the issue.

Nobody else noticing the little dots that represent open windows are now slightly upwards and within the applications icon since the patch has been removed?

Annoying on apps with white icons, like Slack.

whats difference between installing extensions from the aur and installing extensions from extensions.gnome.org?

pdimh commented on 2022-08-29 20:26 (UTC)

is that patch needed? The latest version worked fine here without the patch, but looks a bit off when the patch is applied.

@daniruiz, your patch is now applied

Hey all, I have some issues with the extension.

I have tested the ubuntu-dock branch (what this package currently installs), and I've also tried the master branch with the following PRs merged: https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/pull/1656 https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/pull/1720 (from @daniruiz)

The following two issues are present on both:

The first is blurry edges around icon highlights, which I found an issue was submitted for already on Github: https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/issues/1722

The second issue is that certain applications take a long time to show up in the dock after I've launched them. I've found several reports of this issue (or similar ones?), but none of the fixes I found work for me. One app that I'm having this problem with for example is Google Chrome (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/google-chrome) On Wayland, when I launch Chrome for the first time after login, the icon pretty consistently takes 15-16 seconds to show up. After that, if I close up Chrome, then reopen it, it takes around 2 seconds to show up every time. Other apps, like GNOME apps (calculator, extensions, etc.) or VLC will show up instantly. If I use Xorg, Chrome takes 2 secs to show up every time, so basically the same as on Wayland, minus that 15 second first time wait. I've had this issue for a long time on Manjaro, but I never really bothered to look much into it, figured it was some misconfiguration issue. Now I'm running a fresh Arch install, and the issue remains.

Does someone by chance know a solution to these issues?
