When reporting this package as outdated make sure there is indeed a new version for Linux Desktop. You can have a look at the "Stable updates" tag in Release blog for this.

You can also run this command to obtain the version string for the latest chrome version:

$ curl -sSf https://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/dists/stable/main/binary-amd64/Packages | \
     grep -A1 "Package: google-chrome-stable" | \
     awk '/Version/{print $2}' | \
     cut -d '-' -f1

Do not report updates for ChromeOS, Android or other platforms stable versions as updates here.

Okay, guess they changed the format. I don't use Arch anymore, just update my remaining packages through Cygwin.

I can still check things like this also. I don't know at which point I drop my remainders, but just ping me about https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/?K=Det&SeB=M and we'll talk about it.

Looks like the AWK expression on

$ curl -sL https://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/x86_64/repodata/other.xml.gz | gzip -df | awk -F\" '/pkgid/{ sub(".*-","",$4); print $4": "$10 }'

is not working anymore. I don't know why.

@dschaefer79 try to install ice-ssb: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ice-ssb/ This will take care of necessary simlink for you. Hope it works

dschaefer79 commented on 2018-11-03 10:19 (UTC)

@tjuszki I have made what you said, but it's not working.

amansubhan commented on 2018-11-02 12:36 (UTC)

Installed the latest version last night, facing severe jerks and non fluid kinda software rendering.

sparky_005 commented on 2018-11-01 01:51 (UTC) (edited on 2018-11-01 02:06 (UTC) by sparky_005)

Anybody having issues with keyboard shortcuts not working on the latest version? Not sure if it's Chrome or something else.

EDIT: I fixed this by opening a new window from the menu and closing the existing windows. The existing windows, for some reason, weren't working, but new windows were. Weird bug!

tjuszki commented on 2018-10-26 15:40 (UTC)

@dschaefer79 In my case moving Google Chrome on top of the list in KDE Plasma -> System Settings -> Applications -> File Associations -> application/xhtml+xml resolved the issue.

dschaefer79 commented on 2018-10-26 15:30 (UTC)

I have again the problem set as default as the startup of chrome that won't go away. Does anyone have a solution ? Thanks,

zerophase flagged google-chrome out-of-date on 2018-10-26 for the following reason:

Chrome notifies an update is out.

Let it. There isn't.

Either it's an extension scamming you, or you don't have 70.0.3538.77. You have complete instructions right there how to check the latest versions. You could've even downloaded/verified the MD5 yourself.

antx commented on 2018-10-24 23:04 (UTC)

google-chrome-stable_70.0.3538.67_amd64.deb has wrong checksum.

Should be 297579a04aadce6ea9502e536e44edd3 according to PKGBUILD.

But on my machines I get this instead:

md5sum google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb ⏎ 2c51740867a6a8b5e53e227c62822465

dschaefer79 commented on 2018-10-24 12:29 (UTC)

The problem is gone

Depends very much on your DE (desktop environment, KDE, GNOME, etc.).

spicewiesel flagged google-chrome out-of-date on 2018-09-21 for the following reason:

md5 mismatch

No there isn't. Stop fake flagging.

The MD5 will only be taken from https://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/dists/stable/main/binary-amd64/Packages

Det commented on 2018-09-18 14:14 (UTC)

@jimreynold2nd, at that time when you tried.

@OrdoFlammae, I don't think there is a separate mirror. That's never been an issue, and trying just now, I connect directly to CA, USA (Silicon Valley).

@frydac, when you say this took you some time, you're not serious are you?

frydac commented on 2018-09-18 08:39 (UTC) (edited on 2018-09-18 08:41 (UTC) by frydac)

It did take me a little bit of time figuring this out, so hope this helps someone. Editing the pkgbuild with following entries worked for me:

version (using the "curl ..." command in the note by Det):
69.0.3497.100

md5sum (downloading the .deb package manually and using md5sum):
1e1394cf7c75cac3f2158e812eb04393

OrdoFlammae commented on 2018-09-17 22:16 (UTC)

About the package being out of date, have you checked to make sure your mirror is updated?

jimreynold2nd commented on 2018-09-17 18:56 (UTC)

It is out of date: checksum does not match anymore.

I reviewed my pinned comment, since people just can't fathom what's going on.

sku commented on 2018-09-11 22:19 (UTC)

md5sum of new version „69.0.3497.92“ is „58bafb3149bb0e0d00efe61357a3bd8a“ (first line of array). To be sure this should be reviewed.

Det commented on 2018-09-05 14:47 (UTC)

You noobs.

uncletrunks commented on 2018-09-05 05:32 (UTC)

The package isn't updated yet, hence the validity check fails. Edit the PKGBUILD if you can't wait, all you've gotta do is change the version number and MD5 for the .deb file.

riemannrocker commented on 2018-09-05 04:45 (UTC)

Another case of "One or more files did not pass the validity check!"

st8plgun commented on 2018-09-05 03:04 (UTC)

I'm getting the same error... "one or more files did not pass the validity check"

patrickcurl commented on 2018-09-05 02:43 (UTC) (edited on 2018-09-05 02:44 (UTC) by patrickcurl)

When upgrading, I keep getting: one or more files did not pass the validity check. (yay -Syu)

@growler actually yes, it took several month to clean old crap https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=829890&can=2&q=fontconfig

fix already merged to beta version, few more days dude

voot commented on 2018-08-29 06:12 (UTC)

Running on Xfce, also having the 'failing to fully close' issue.

The process needs to be killed manually, and the .config/google-chrome deleted for the window to appear/launch normally again.

You mean... the one that says:

  • Note: Git clone URLs are not meant to be opened in a browser.
  • To clone the Git repository of google-chrome, run git clone <https://aur.archlinux.org/google-chrome.git>.
  • Click here to return to the google-chrome details page.

Does anyone have a problem with "zoomed-in" youtube videos(not all) in latest Chrome?

Found some old topic about this with pictures of the issue - https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/jNnXAY41zP0

So far I thing only YT is affected. Can't see this behaviour on Netflix or HBO

Det commented on 2018-07-25 13:50 (UTC)

Or 68.0.3440.75 & 'SKIP'/--skipinteg.

Issue #1: no system tray icon (Chrome, Hangouts). Issue #2: selecting "exit" in Chrome's taskbar dropdown menu does not fully close it and needs to be pkilled from a term.

Note: Gnome 3.28 is assumed.

Det commented on 2018-07-02 15:40 (UTC)

It's not made for Arch. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

pbateman commented on 2018-07-02 15:40 (UTC)

Most popular browser and it's been broken for months now... Is it really that difficult to fix?

Det commented on 2018-06-27 11:46 (UTC)

The.. binaries here come straight from Google (built mostly for Ubuntu). The chromium package from [extra] is built for Arch using our libs.

bobarch64 commented on 2018-06-27 05:40 (UTC) (edited on 2018-06-27 05:41 (UTC) by bobarch64)

@Det, after reading more carefully: were chromium to adopt the current fontconfig library in its binary build that old config files would be read correctly here https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=829890#c21

how is the binary build for chrome? since chromium works fine with the new fontconfig library and conf

bobarch64 commented on 2018-06-21 07:26 (UTC)

yes it didn't work for me either. So meanwhile I will use chromium

Det commented on 2018-06-21 07:12 (UTC)

Well on the very next page someone else says it doesn't work even?

bobarch64 commented on 2018-06-21 07:10 (UTC) (edited on 2018-06-21 07:17 (UTC) by bobarch64)

@Det do you have any suggestions how to deal with it. Use the old fontconfig conf files?, as suggested in the https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1778526#p1778526 and wait for a solution when chrome is updated (chromium is working fine btw)? anyway thanks for maintaining

Det commented on 2018-06-20 07:11 (UTC)

Not sure what do you expect to be done here, if LD_PRELOAD doesn't help even.

bobarch64 commented on 2018-06-20 05:44 (UTC)

Fontconfig outdated: it should be used the system fontconfig https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=829890&can=2&q=fontconfig
