Apparently somebody was kind enough to redistribute the .8283 in Ubuntu One: http://www.webupd8.org/2012/12/download-google-earth-7-with-fixed.html
You can get the tarball from here: http://www25.zippyshare.com/v/79875837/file.html
Still crashes on the persian conf, though.

Hey @Det, thanks a lot for packaging GE!

It's not out of date, my dear. The optional slow, buggy 7.0 beta is still here: http://www29.zippyshare.com/v/24125743/file.html

You either don't have the same problem or you're not using 6.2.
kolombo commented on 2012-11-29 09:54 (UTC)
Same problem with `6.2.2.6613-1`, I believe it worked well before.
65-fonts-persian.conf is removed.
Det commented on 2012-11-29 09:49 (UTC)
That _is_ the same one.. which is sincerely quite interesting since the "65-fonts-persian.conf" should be the only one expat is failing to parse.
You could go thourgh some other suggestions in here. See if it makes a difference (or just stick to 6.2): http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/earth/dlzBfGl4eKM/discussion

Well, sort of:

I just re-uploaded 6.2 using the Mint repositories as that's apparently the only place in the world I could find it.
The tarball for the new laggy 7.0 beta is still here, in case someone insists on it: http://www29.zippyshare.com/v/24125743/file.html

The _same_ one? You sure of that?

I will not update (for now) to the latest version 7.3.6.9326 because it crashes continuously for me.

Thanks, unfortunate timing then.
For reference, with Gnome shell / wayland I need to
