Is this on a new install? Is the cfg file present? Are you using makepkg or a helper? I cannot reproduce.

Is there a ~/.config/modprobed-db.conf present? I just changed the name a few h ago depending on the version you're running,p. what if you build and install with makepkg not a helper?

There is no .config/modeprobed-db.conf since there is some error with the CFG_FILE variable.

It's weird that if I replicate the commands in the modprobe-db script within my shell, that error doesn't occur...

There is no ~/.config/modprobed_db.conf, the error occurs before the file is made since there is some error with the CFG_FILE variable.

I installed the package w/ yaourt.

Never saw that one before... did you install the Arch Linux package? Post to output of `cat ~/.config/modprobed_db.conf`
