It would be great to:
- not put the .desktop file in /etc/xdg/autostart as izahn said
- provide a systemd entry to be able to start selenium server like any other service with systemctl

IMO it would be better not to put the .desktop file in /etc/xdg/autostart. I for one don't actually want it running constantly.

Has somebody done floreal suggestions from below? Can u share?
Cause i have to run server manually:
java -jar /usr/bin/selenium-server-java
systemctl start selenium-server.service
does nothing.

Maybe should switch to: phantomjs probably faster and headless as well.

If java-runtime isn't installed before, $JAVA_HOME is empty so selenium-server-java is linked to the wrong path. JAVA_HOME needs to be populated first.

Selenium server should be launched in a XVFB framebuffer.
There are two reason fort this:
- On a developer / tester / whatever, it allows runrning browser without being bothered with poping windows
- On a server (which can be part of a selenium grid), that may not have a GUI
I made a debian package which contains an init.d script. Feel free to study and adapt it to any other service management system (systectl, rc, etc.)

Using FF18 and selenium 2.28.0. Using the java -jar command to run it manually, it works, but installing from this AUR does not. Perhaps this error is related to systemd running it as 'nobody'?

UnhandledWebDriverError: Unable to connect to host localhost.localdomain on port 7055 after 45000 ms. Firefox console output:

(firefox:6687): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.

v2.26.0-2 has systemd support thanks to nharward

Because of my holiday I was not able to update to v2.26.0 which has been released more than a week ago

@smerik - no rush on my behalf. I already have it on my system then wound up having to install it on Windows anyway since IE is required for what I'm doing :P
