JohnRobson The database vendors, like Oracle and others usually provide their JDBC drivers. I recommend downloading the thin drivers, they work well.

@hyness Thank you for this info. What package do you recommend me to install? O where can I get those drivers?

hyness commented on 2017-07-21 14:17 (UTC)

@JohnRobson SquirrelSQL does not come with JDBC drivers. You need to install those yourself

Bug: No drivers loaded.

IMHO the desktop entry should be as follows (for correct launcher settings ie: KDE): [Desktop Entry] Name=SQuirreL GenericName=SQuirreL SQL Client Comment=Browse/edit SQL databases Exec=squirrel-sql %U Icon=squirrel-sql Terminal=false Type=Application Categories=Development; StartupNotify=true MimeType=text/x-sql; StartupWMClass=net-sourceforge-squirrel_sql-client-Main Keywords=Programming;Java;SQL

The java package guildelines clearly state that its not required to compile java packages... https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Java_package_guidelines "You do not need to compile Java applications from source. Very little optimization goes into the compile process, as with gcc created binaries."

This package should probably be called squirrel-sql-bin because it downloads the binaries. "Use suffix -bin always unless you are sure there will never be a source-based package" (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nonfree_applications_package_guidelines)
