It's a binary built and downloaded from somewhere else. This violates "Trusting Trust". So the proper way to build thunderbird is to download the source tarball and use the C++/Rust-compilers to build the binaries.

Why the standard 'thunderbird' lags behind so much, I don't know (ask the maintainer of the 'thunderbird' package).

This should never be mainlined into the main repos IMHO, as it is a binary blob.

When is this being mainlined into the repos? 78.x.x is the official release and 68.x.x is the only one in the official repos. Plus this version is very out-of-date with missing security patches.
