There is no version dependency on this package on purpose! You could read comments back from 2011 to understand why.

installed with virtualbox-bin 6.1.26-1, but still VirtualBox shows no extension pack installed :(

Daniel-I commented on 2021-10-21 13:57 (UTC) (edited on 2021-10-21 14:08 (UTC) by Daniel-I)

In hindsight, could the issue be related to version matching?

VirtualBox and all it's other packages are v6.1.26 while this package has been updated to 6.1.28... so perhaps this package update was made ahead of VirtualBox (in my Manjaro/pamac repositories anyway) being updated, and will be relevant once VirtualBox itself is updated to 6.1.28?

I wasn't sure how to downgrade an AUR package initially, but found a post that helped me to navigate the snapshots, download the three 6.1.26 package files, and run makepkg -scri... which successfully restored a working extension within Virtualbox!

Same as Daniel-I. I was able to get my VM running by disabling USB 3.0

Same issue as reported by Daniel-l. Prevents my VM from starting up. Downgrading to the previous version helps as a workaround (just needed a quick Office job).

I received an update notification from pamac (GUI) that this package was updated today and selected to update.... I received a number of errors (all in the "Configuring virtualbox-ext-oracle..." section) and thought it best to provide the entire pamac log here to assist with troubleshooting.

I'm not sure what was supposed to happen with the first error (where it "failed to install"), but I can say it likely wasn't because the file did not exist, as it definitely does exist. (Note: the timestamp of the vbox-extpack is 7 min older as I thought I'd try remove/rebuild the package to see if that made a difference... which it didn't.)

When I open VirtualBox and open Preferences-> Extensions I see extension highlighted and if I mouse over it, it seems to repeat error #2 from the log.

This reminded me that the previous version of this package did not auto-register and I had to add it manually. So I tried the following steps and reached the same end result: (1) uninstalled the extension via pamac... (2) opened VirtualBox, removed the extension entry in Preferences->Extensions, and closed the app... (3) reinstalled the extension via pamac... same errors... (4) opened VirtualBox and found the extension was re-added with the same error on mouse-over (error #2 from the pamac log)

@ElijahLynn, unless I'm missing something, it should "just work". You can learn more about the extension pack at https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch01.html#intro-installing

I hope it helps!

Thanks.

Are there any specific instructions here after install? I don't see the Extension showing up in vbox preferences under extensions. Should it "just work"?

Update: it appears that I needed to reboot for it to show up.

Thinking more about it, the guest-additions module fail to build problem isn't with this package, the problem is with the guest-additions not patched as part of AUR virtualbox-bin.
