solved it with setting env var MAGICK_OCL_DEVICE=OFF

strace is quite weird, here is for maximized_focus (successfull): https://justpaste.it/1j287

here is the one for ontop (the one which hangs): https://justpaste.it/1j28a

from strace it seems what HDRI feature for some reason enabled for ontop picture but not for maximized_focus.

Does it also happen when running the convert command manually?

currently the builds hangs while generating zenburn icons, can anyone else reproduce the problem? it seems the problem with convert but downgrading imagemagick itself didn't helped so it seems to be a problem with one of imagemagick's dependencies

Your totally right a system purging of lua and luajit and then going straight for awesome-luajit-git fixed the issue. Even got AUR luajit-lgi to compile which I've never seen it succeed before. I tried it during my install I'm not sure how much cleaner it could have been back then. Well its its working now thanks. ^^

@Teathief Does it not work for longer already in your case, or due to the latest change which uses lua-penlight-git? (https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/commit/?h=awesome-luajit-git&id=6593f820d2b32fadf878e6946f3b14db9aeb7627) It looks like mixed Lua versions in your case. You might want to try awesome-git instead.

To be honest I haven't been able to get this to build since the change over. Fatal errors during compiling at 65-100% while trying to build target ldoc.
