When reporting this package as outdated make sure there is indeed a new version for Linux Desktop. You can have a look at the "Stable updates" tag in Release blog for this.

You can also run this command to obtain the version string for the latest chrome version:

On KDE desktop environment, F11 hotkey for entering in the fullscreen mode and exiting the fullscreen mode isn't working.

Yup; apparently it's a bug further up the chain? It came up again when Brave was updated yesterday; the guy maintaining that package was good enough to answer me.

A fix is to run Chrome with --force-device-scale-factor=2, as described here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/HiDPI#Chromium_/_Google_Chrome

On Manjaro KDE with 200% scale setting, Everything is HUGE!

to get get hardware video acceleration, you need to explicitly pass; --enable-features=VaapiVideoDecoder

in the CLI. the flag “enable-accelerated-video-decode” is no more in chrome 91.

Using this on a high-dpi screen with scaling appears to apply the scaling twice. Everything's huge.

Hello, thank you maintaining this PKGBUILD. I wonder if a script similar to archlinux-java could be added. Currently package() results in a script called /usr/bin/google-chrome-stable but there are tools/libraries that rely on existence of google-chrome instead.

Here's an example for webbrowser python module:

After creating a symbolic links this starts to works as expected:

As of v89, pipewire is used instead of libpipewire02.

@ablecounter: fakeroot is part of base-devel.

From the Wiki:

Note: The group base-devel is assumed to be already installed when building with makepkg. Members of this group should not be included in makedepends array.

This seems to need fakeroot, so it sort of seems like that should be a dependency, unless I'm missing something obvious, which happens.

E: Oh nvm, you said it's not a Chromium issue. Chrome (.deb, .rpm, whatever) is built for that one distro-set, so there's always gonna be some lib-mismatch issues due to their own versionings and distro-specific patches.

E2: Like even tho I loved maintaining this, I wouldn't bother with it for daily use.

Edit: I was able to reproduce this multiple times by simply rebooting, starting google chrome, and then rebooting again.

Edit 2: It appears to be good practice for the user to manually have to kill a browser before rebooting: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=234280 . I've decided to turn off the "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed" setting and will update if the problem persists.

Edit 3: It seems that even with background processes turned off, systemd timeouts still occur occasionally. I never encountered this issue in my year-long usage of chromium before I switched to chrome, so I'm not sure what's going on.

@FabioLolix if you want to say something about this package do not use the "mark as obsolete" option. Use the comments, that's what they are there for. On top of that, your comment is not very relevant: "[i]gtk3-print-backends no longer exist and can be removed from optdepends[/i]".

/usr/share/menu is as far as I know also obsolete on Debian. Please drop it.

I think /usr/share/menu folder should be deleted. It is necessary for debian menu system, not arch.

When watching video on 2x speed in some moment video picture accelerates to cosmic speed. Video sound speed is correct. After that video completely freezes, but webpage reload help.

The bug is reproduced on any google chrome version 88+.

After downgrading browser to version 87.0.4280.141 - browser works well.

ALL previous session/open tabs/open windows information was clobbered with this last update, Version 88.0.4324.96. Any possibility to recover?

smooth scrolling is broken in the latest update google-chrome-stable v88.0.4324.96

reverted to google-chrome-stable v87.0.4280.141 and smooth scrolling is working fine as it is.

In Gnome after upgrade to 87.0.4280.141-1 Chrome opens with default icon on dock and named "Unknown". In top it shows normal, as "chrome".

Can you please add

You already change the desktop entry file with the following line in the PKGBUILD

sed -i "/Exec=/i\StartupWMClass=Google-chrome" "$pkgdir"/usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop

to fix the icon resolution on the dock in Gnome. Just add the other line, it's not so difficult. Thanks.

Hi, I had these error 4 times :

tput: No value for $TERM and no -T specified

So i set my terminal (alacritty) on /etc/environment and reboot. Now i have these error 4 times :

tput: unknown terminal "/usr/bin/alacritty"

The solution is to install xterm, set it as TERM in /etc/environment and reboot before reinstall google-chrome

WebRTC screen sharing seems now to be working again after receiving the update of pipewire 0.3.15-2

I've been using WebRTC screen sharing in Chrome + GNOME Shell + Wayland for long time (e.g. in Google meet calls) as described here:

Yesterday I recevide an update for Chrome (this package) and after that, screen sharing does not work anymore. It's not able to capture the entire screen. Does anyone know any workaroud? Thanks!

@aryklein Providing the proper fonts for a website is a task for the websites creator, not for the system. Also I strongly doubt any Bootstrap page is using Liberation font:

The default font-family is "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif.

You're just providing a sans-serif font. So installing any sans-serif font will make things more beautiful than not providing any and relying on any font to be available for any reason.

Sites based on bootstrap4 look ugly if you don't install ttf-liberation which is an optional package.
