I will not update (for now) to the latest version 7.3.6.9326 because it crashes continuously for me.

Thanks, unfortunate timing then.

For reference, with Gnome shell / wayland I need to

unset QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME
unset QT_QPA_PLATFORM

to avoid

Google Earth has caught signal 6.

And really, the link always pointed to the amd64 deb on 64-bit systems in the past. It just included 32-bit binaries.

Det commented on 2014-07-09 17:35 (UTC)

Sure. The 64-bit version was so buggy on Linux ever since it was introduced in November 2012 (7.0.1.8244 beta: http://filehippo.com/download_google_earth/changelog/13615/) that I had to re-create the previous one (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/google-earth6/) so people could actually have a working Google Earth. I've since recentlish (24th April) moved the 64-bit build behind the _64=1 switch for those who insist, as can be seen from the comments and the PKGBUILD, respectively.

Is there a reason that this package installs a 32-bit version of Earth on x86_64 when there is a 64-bit version available?

Det commented on 2014-05-07 17:19 (UTC)

I know it sucks. Stick to Google Earth 6: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/google-earth6/

unfortunately the attempted fix does not work now. on my desktop (64bit system) almost works and does convince me that it does something right because it does try to open the picture (normal install does not even try) but then it crashes. To me it does not crashes immediately, only when I try to see a picture. on my laptop (32bit system) it does not even install. So I am reduced to not have the attempted fix and not be able to see panoramio pictures.

@fanisg, here you go. Still crashes immediately on me, though.

Det: You are right, I'm terribly sorry: CARCH="x86_64".

Det commented on 2014-04-29 19:19 (UTC)

$ grep CARCH /etc/makepkg.conf? Are you using some non-standard makepkg?

I downloaded google-earth 7.1.2.2041-2 from AUR and when I try to install it, I can't because these dependencies are missing: ld-lsb>=3-5 lib32-fontconfig lib32-glu lib32-libgl lib32-libsm lib32-libxrender lib32-mesa I'm not running 64-bits, I'm on 686. I'm posting here coming from here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1410296#p1410296
