To install all versions of packettracer except 7.2.2, follow this guidelines: 1. Download the snapshot from this AUR. 2. Tar -zxf the packettracer.tar.gz snapshot (it creates the dir packettracer/ with the PKGBUILD on it). 3. Download the latest packettracer tarball from your Netacad account and copy it into the packettracer/ dir. 4. Create the package with the command makepkg (it creates a packettracer.pkg.tar.xz). 5. Install the package with either makepkg -i or sudo pacman -U packettracer.pkg.tar.xz.

Packettracer 7.2.2 are auto installable via run file, download it from netacad webpage and run it, you don't need this package.

Cisco has made Packet Tracer available to all for free: 1. Create a Networking Academy account - Free 2. Optional but advisable - enroll in Packet Tracer 101 - Free takes about 1hr to complete. Visit the Upstream URL for details. The sha512sum will not match with the version now available, please update.

Er, installing to opt is disalowed, you just can put all in /usr/share/packettracer/ and add a script in /usr/bin to call the propper file with all the enviromnet variables and chill, that more clean and arch-guideliness complaint.

Okay, not trying to be an asshole, but there are two problems with this recent update: 1. Redistributing Packet Tracer in this manner clearly violates Cisco's EULA. Distribution by instructors is allowed in limited form (defined in their EULA) and this clearly doesn't meet that. See http://ix.io/oFx or /usr/share/licenses/packettracer/eula.txt if you already have it installed. 2. Archive.org is a charity, and it's pretty shitty to use it to distribute package updates. They have issues with bandwidth usage on a regular basis as it is, and I don't think it's right to use them for this purpose. If you're going to pirate software, at least have the decency to put your bandwidth where your mouth is like most torrent users do :P Distributing the PKGBUILD was perfectly fine, and I think that's what you should go back to. If someone is too incompetent to change the file path and update the checksums, then they shouldn't be installing AUR packages in the first place and should probably just switch to a platform that Cisco supports. Just to clarify, I don't think there's anything ethically wrong with redistributing freeware, but this is not what the AUR is for. And if you think I'm wrong, feel free to spin up a VPS and distribute it that way so Cisco has to bug you instead of archive.org if they have a problem with what you're doing.

Hello, Bump to new version packettracer 6.3-1.

z3ntu commented on 2016-02-07 19:41 (UTC) (edited on 2016-02-07 19:48 (UTC) by z3ntu)

So, I have uploaded the new version to archive.org and updated the PKGBUILD file: https://gist.github.com/z3ntu/f7eaf47c73d23bec430b EDIT: just launched the new version and got a fullscreen popup to sign me in (after that everything works fine). When clicking "Guest Login" you first have to wait 15 seconds. Then packet tracer starts and you are in a normal-looking environment (no idea what is disabled).

May I ask why gcc-multilib is a make dependency?

@architect Maybe this is related. But AFAIK, when I passed by assessment last year I had to downgrade to 6.1 because inter VLAN routing was not working properly. In practise, the green light in the simulated devices were not properly lit. Maybe you found the solution to my problem too. As I don't have access to the software for now and will require it again in a few months, could you test if inter VLAN routing is now working properly with your changes? Thanks again!

For this check to be passed: https://assessment.netacad.net/check/check.html I needed the following: 1. Installing icedtea-web (should be added as optdepends w/ explanation 2. Adding /opt/pt/bin to $PATH which I did in /etc/profile (should be done in PKGBUILD)
