Upstream has renamed the "build_docs" option into "with_docs". In the PKGBUILD on line 36, things have now to be changed into "-Dwith_docs=true".

The error seems pretty self-explanatory.

makepkg -C is what you need, no idea if pikaur has an option to pass that through or not.

Updating the package with pikaur is giving me the following error. Any idea what's going on?

There's little point in reporting that here. Check out the open issues at https://github.com/yshui/compton/issues and open a new one if your symptoms aren't covered by an existing one.

compton-git-2:661_Next.14.g46b50b4_2018.12.17-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

had a very deleterious effect on my Xorg usage. Made vlc full screen video almost unwatchably jerky.
