This package is the CLI package provided by Surfshark. It is different to the GUI package. Please only flag this as out of date if Surfshark update the CLI package.

So I finally signed up at Surfshark and tried to install surfshark-vpn, but it fails at importing the pgp key:

=> PGP keys need importing: -> 9337E0FFC604A322352A55606253B09AEA6AE9E1, required by: surfshark-vpn ==> Import? [Y/n] :: Importing keys with gpg...... gpg: Key 6253B09AEA6AE9E1: No User-ID gpg: Number of processed keys: 1 ==> Error: Problem importing keys

I tried with different keyservers set in .gnupg/gpg.conf and also tried with gpg manually (gpg --recv 9337E0FFC604A322352A55606253B09AEA6AE9E1), but without success.

Any idea?

On arch, /sbin and /usr/sbin are symlinks to /usr/bin, what's the reason you choose /usr/local/sbin for surfshark-vpn executable and not /usr/bin like in the deb package?

.../surfshark-vpn/copyright is not a license, btw it contains only one line: @Surfshark

.../surfshark-vpn/changelog.gz must be uncompressed before moving to /usr/share/doc

No need for '-g root -o root' in install. epoch= and noextract=() are useless (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Description is "Surfshark VPN client" (from control file in deb) not "Surfshark Linux client".

@SharkyRawr I don't think there is a relation between NordVPN and Surfshark. I have seen several reports about the connection between VPN providers during my research, but Surfshark was always on its own. The Linux software both offer also looks quite different feature wise.

A GNOME Shell Extension for the Surfshark software would be awesome. I also intend to mainly use NetworkManager to connect to VPNs, but of course on one hand that's only practical for a few selected VPN servers (since you have to import each and every setting) and on the other hand it lacks the "Quick-connect to your Optimal location" feature.

I didn't expect them to give Linux much love, and unfortunately it's not really in their focus for the future as well. This is what I received on my inquiry:

"Based on the information received from our developers, there are no recent plans for the future to update the Linux application."

Nevertheless, I have looked at quite a number of VPN providers, and there are no others that can match Surfshark in features and price, which is why I will sign up for their Black Friday 27 Months Special shortly. :)

I think surfshark is secretly a reseller of nordvpn or maybe a daughter corporation - so adapting that extension probably wouldn't be too difficult. I just glanced over the code and saw that there is no API to access, just scraping and extracting data from websites. Tedious but doable.

This (inofficial) package contains the official Linux client written in Go (which is pretty shite if you ask me), if they release a new client or version I'd be happy to package it. So far I've been using their openvpn configs with NetworkManager and i guess that works well enough for me.

I assume this is still the first release of the Surfshark app that has been announced on the Surfshark website in a blog posting from March 1?

Any Surfshark Arch Linux users here? I'm gonna sign up soon and I'm hoping the app gets some more love in the future, as they are going to support WireGuard in the 1st quarter of 2020.

A native GUI app or a GNOME Shell Extension for it (as they have it for NordVPN: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gnome-shell-extension-nordvpn-connect-git/) would be great.

Note: surfshark-vpn_1.0.0_amd64.deb is the latest binary package; surfshark-release_1.0.0-1.1_amd64.deb only contains the Debian apt sources.list files.
