v4.3.8-1

The FunOrb files were removed, so a clean build is recommended[1]:

makepkg -C

Then, either move or remove the prms dir, to prevent them from appearing in the launcher dropdown:

mv "$HOME/.config/runescape/share/prms/" "$HOME/.config/runescape/share/prms_old/"
v4.3.7-1

The language bar and copyright footer are finally always removed[2].

@JiPRA You're welcome :)

Glad to hear that it's all working!

@kmk3 Great to see a new maintainer for this package, thank you! The audio problem that we were facing in November turned out to be a bug in ALSA library v1.1.7 and it is now fixed:

https://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-lib.git;a=commit;h=178fe66bc88c6ccdd3b90195e7178293d368a83b

However, as I tried to launch the client today, I noticed that it refused to start due to a problem with fetching RSS feeds. Also, the client was unable to fetch the player count for OSRS. Both of these problems turned out to be small issues in the launcher's Perl module file. After fixing them, the client started to work again so I made a pull request on GitHub.

I'm using the latest package versions of java (jre-openjdk 11.0.2.u7-1), pulseaudio and cinnamon desktop environment. I'm happy to say that, currently, everything seems to be working without problems.

@JiPRA @SuperPrower What version of java/pulseaudio/desktop environment are you using? Audio in OSRS works fine (and shows up in plasma-pa) for me with the following:

jdk8-openjdk 8.u202-1
jre8-openjdk 8.u202-1
jre8-openjdk-headless 8.u202-1
plasma-desktop 5.15.2-1
plasma-pa 5.15.2-1
plasma-workspace 5.15.2-1
pulseaudio 12.2-2
pulseaudio-alsa 2-4

Could you try rebuilding perl-alien-wxwidgets, perl-wx and then this package? I was having problems compiling this before doing that. Also, try updating the jagexappletviewer.jar:

/opt/runescape/rsu/rsu-query rsu.download.client

What is the output of running the client?

/opt/runescape/runescape --prmfile=oldschool.prm

I can't get music playing if I have pulseaudio active no matter what I try, no matter which Java version I use or which option I try. I can, however, get sound working on machine that has pulseaudio killed. Sounds do work everywhere. Any ideas why?

JiPRA commented on 2018-10-29 10:09 (UTC)

I noticed today that sounds are no longer working in RS3 or OSRS. Rebuilding the package doesn't help. Also, the client doesn't show up in Cinnamon's sound applet anymore. I hope you could maintain this package because it is, in my honest opinion, far more better than the newer NXT client. In fact, the best RS client there is, or has ever been.

Hi folks, you might be interested to know that I just set up an Open Build Service repo providing this package and its dependencies as pre-built binaries. They are created using PKGBUILDs like this one provided by the AUR. https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:fusion809/unix-runescape-client. To install this binary add this to /etc/pacman.conf: [home_fusion809_arch_extra_Arch_Extra] SigLevel = Never Server = http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/fusion809:/arch_extra/Arch_Extra/$arch and run this as root: pacman -Syu pacman -S home_fusion809_arch_extra_Arch_Extra/unix-runescape-client
