@vasconssa I figured out the issue. If you run the engine from terminal it thinks it is running on a headless server, so the engine shuts down rather than wait for user input to recompile.

@vasconssa That's odd since I keep getting a warning the project needs to be recompiled, and the engine just defaults to choosing false every time. I should probably fix that.
Currently, seeing if I can get ccache support into the engine, which I'm guessing will cut down on compile time for us by a decent amount.

@zerophase I build the engine manually and C++ projects works now, perhaps is some patch incompatibility.
zerophase commented on 2019-01-05 06:48 (UTC)
The problems with C++ projects opening happen with the development engine as well.

So, I made xdg-user-dirs optional as I believe it is only needed for foreign language path support. Unreal throws a warning message over it being missing, but the engine works fine without it. If anyone experiences crashes from not having xdg-user-dirs just let me know and I'll put it back.

It was needed to compile because of some functions returning values that were not used, so yes, please remove if it compiles without that now.

I'm working on getting some of our patches to upstream. Does anyone know why ignore-return-value-error.patch was needed?
It does this:
// suppress errors about ignoring return value of function
Result += " -Wno-unused-result";
Going to remove it if no one actually needs it.

@MirandaStreeter I'm working on getting an update out. Should be up in a couple days, when I finish debugging.

@Yosh See the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Unreal_Engine_4#Installing_from_the_AUR
@acerix @zerophase A new point release was merged into the branch last month: https://forums.unrealengine.com/unreal-engine/announcements-and-releases/1547816-unreal-engine-4-21-released?p=1558963#post1558963
It fixes quite a few bugs, so could we have this package updated?
In the meantime, I just updated my 'pkgver' and set all the checksums to 'skip', seeing if that will work for now. If not, I'll probably just wait for the maintainers.
Edit: Nope, looks like the patch files need to be adjusted? Not entirely sure, I suppose I'll have to wait.

@juancarlospaco this is easily done on your own system, not in a PKGBUILD, given that building packages runs as root:
Permission issues like this are already mentioned on the UE Arch wiki page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Unreal_Engine_4#Installing_from_the_AUR
This is a user system problem; I already did what I could without needing users to do the above by giving the
777
permissions. If it still gives you trouble, you'll have to use the example to solve it or change the install location to somewhere you have user permissions by default (as I cannot do this for you).zerophase commented on 2021-05-27 08:15 (UTC) (edited on 2021-05-30 08:41 (UTC) by zerophase)
Will update to 5.0 when it is released.
