@kosa It's strange - I never had such problem but after all I'm glad everything is running fine :)

@mozo After I rebooted the issue was gone. A contact reported that after installing Viber with flatpak, and before rebooting, all the messages I had sent them had gone through, but they were empty of content. Now everything works well on my end as well. Thanks for bringing it up.

@kosa

I don't have the connection problem. I use it for 2 year and everything is working pretty fine. It's just the audio but I'm starting it via script with export QT_MEDIA_BACKEND=gstreamer && viber and that's it.

@mozo

I've given flatpak a try, and it launches okay, but then it keeps flashing the "Connecting..." message on the top left corner on and off the screen every second (which is very annoying).

Otherwise, it sends files which it had problems in my case previously, it plays back audio, which it did not ever do outside flatpak before, and it plays back videos as well, which I could never do in any previous installation that I can recall.

Do you have any suggestions for the "Connecting..." message?

I gave up on Viber Appimage and AUR variants a long time ago. The flatpack package is working extremely well. Just run the following after the installation to have a proper cursor:

flatpak override --user --env=XCURSOR_PATH=/run/host/user-share/icons:/run/host/share/icons

I finally decided to take the risk and upgrade to the latest version, which had not worked for me before. I attempted to start Viber from the terminal and I have been receiving the following error:

qt.qml.typeregistration: Invalid QML element name "ViberAdsItem"; value type names should begin with a lowercase letter

I tried re-installing it, and it still returns that before it exits back to the prompt.

Edit:

I tried with export QT_MEDIA_BACKEND=gstreamer && viber and it opened, but then I tried to send a media file (.png) and it would not be sent. The error I would get next was this: qt.gui.imageio: libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile and then it would not open again anymore.

Regarding the Segmentation fault (core dumped) issue with v23+, I did some GDB debugging and found that the culprit in my case was the VDPAU driver for libva. Uninstalling libva-vdpau-driver solved the problem. VDPAU is mostly obsolete nowadays anyway, and I hadn’t realized I could have removed it earlier. Hope this helps someone.
