Okay, thank you. I am out of ideas except for one: IPv4 vs. IPv6 problem? What is the content of /opt/brother/scanner/brscan4/brsanenetdevice4.cfg? Did you see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/SANE#Invalid_argument

@harvey ok, i tried it with xsane, and nothing happened

Sorry for being nuisant but I'd give xsane a try before starting to access the scanner via shell. Just to be sure...

@harvey xsane can't bring a advantage over scanimage, because xsane is only a gui frontend for scanimage :(

Please give xsane a try, it works for me.

brikler commented on 2024-02-09 12:13 (UTC)

the same result on my second notebook :(

tom@frija ~/compile/brscan4 % scanimage --format=jpeg --output-file vermoegensAenderunge.jpeg --progress
scanimage: open of device brother4:net1;dev0 failed: Invalid argument

Harvey commented on 2024-02-08 17:47 (UTC)

Just a quick shot: please do a clean install of a networked scanner, either on another machine or remove the former installation from the notebook. This may (or may not) be the culprit. Is this the only brother scanner you use?

brikler commented on 2024-02-08 17:35 (UTC)

no, from one notebook
