@linfan: You hit the point! I am a programmer and I need to move quickly between several opened apps: web browser, app editor, ssh console, email reader, db manager, and so. Gnome's tablet like interface does not allow that. Cinnamon, and all gnome-shell-extension from AUR developers, even if they do their best like they are doing, will never be at the same pace of gnome releases. I do not feel myself comfortable in LXDE or XFCE. I think I'll give a chance to KDE, again, after 6 years of gnome ... Tks guys.

@linfan: cool down :) There are also cinnamon extensions and themes in the AUR. @silviosa: I have no idea why morfeo has not updated his PKGBUILD yet.

Hahaa, the down slope for gnome marches on fast, now the themes and extension githubs have been disabled by linux mint: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/668 I am going to do something drastic now, I think. Gnome will have to go, as I already have an android phone and do not need an android clone on my puter. Cinnamon is never going to be of any use, I fear, as the gnome devs are doing their utmost to make gnome into a tabloid screen app. But you never know, maybe some day I will get an IPad clone and then I can wear out my thumbs on gnome. Thanks for the time being and good luck.

@bjo: sorry, wrong distro terminology. I mean pkgbuild (package build).

@silviosa: Updated which packages?

<deleted-account> commented on 2012-05-03 08:37 (UTC)

Well, if it was so easy as @bjo and @eltincho say, why chenxiaolog and morfeo did not updated their packages yet? I'm wondering when it will be useful running cinnamon with Arch. Cinnamon is committed to Ubuntu packages which are upgraded each 6 months. Arch run faster and Gnome people are running fast also. By now, I'm sorry to say, but i'll quit one of those, Cinnamon or Arch. Many thanks to chenxialog for the efforts in bringing us this package and to all you guys for your comments.

To get correctly installed cinnamon and cinnamon-settings, first you need to install muffin-git and cinnamon from aur/cinnamon (not this version). After that, you need to download the "cinnamon-settings-hack.patch" from this page and apply that in "/usr/lib/cinnamon-settings" with patch command "patch < file.patch". That is the way that I have cinnamon working in my computer. I'm waiting for the patch or for a new package to get a working version of cinnamon-git.

grrr, starting to dislike this now. I was stupid to try this May 2 build, and all is destroyed. Desktop won't load at all. And I really, really dislike gnome fallback. @bjo: What are you talking about? Did not work at all. What cinnamon-settings.py are you referring to?

bjo commented on 2012-05-02 11:01 (UTC)

The usual cinnamon-package in AUR works with muffin-git, you only have to patch cinnamon-settings.py. So no need to use gnome-shell with gnome-shell-frippery.
