@linearviewpoint what do you mean by "DaVinci Resolve 17 starts and runs fine"? Did you succeed adding media to the bin and timeline and playing back? May I ask what GPU do you use? Thx

Installation with the current update end with:

#Doing post-install

Removing obsolete files

Installing Application icons

Updating icon cache

gtk-update-icon-cache: No theme index file.

Creating Common Data Dir : /var/BlackmagicDesign/DaVinci Resolve

mkdir: cannot create directory ‘/var/BlackmagicDesign’: Permission denied

DaVinci Resolve installed to /var/tmp/pamac-build-user/davinci-resolve-studio-beta/pkg/davinci-resolve-studio-beta/opt/resolve

Done
  -> Add lib symlinks...
  -> Install launchers and configs...
install: cannot stat 'share/DaVinciControlPanelSetup.desktop': No such file or directory
==> ERROR: A failure occurred in package().
    Aborting...

However, the good news is that DaVinci Resolve 17 starts and runs fine, even if it doesn't appear in my app launcher/start menu. :)

It looks like the new DaVinci Resolve 17 doesn't use the old bsdtar-compatible self extracting archive any more, and now use a binary that stores its archive as a squashfs. To extract the archive:

$ dd if=DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_17.0b1_Linux.run bs=4096 skip=190880 iflag=skip_bytes of=resolve.squashfs && unsquashfs resolve.squashfs

To find the offset of the archive:

$ binwalk DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_17.0b1_Linux.run

Current update appears to fail on install (even after ensuring I'm updated/Syyu and rebooting to be safe...) :
