I will not update (for now) to the latest version 7.3.6.9326 because it crashes continuously for me.

Thanks, unfortunate timing then.

For reference, with Gnome shell / wayland I need to

unset QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME
unset QT_QPA_PLATFORM

to avoid

Google Earth has caught signal 6.

I can confirm: newest version not working on ATI as well: lspci | grep -i vga 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M92 [Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series] with the same error as below: Fontconfig error: line 1: unknown encoding Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file Fatal error in __driConfigOptions line 1, column 0: unknown encoding. Google Earth has caught signal 6. We apologize for the inconvenience, but Google Earth has crashed. This is a bug in the program, and should never happen under normal circumstances. A bug report and debugging data have been written to this text file: /home/papio/.googleearth/crashlogs/crashlog-4c3bd31b.txt Please include this file if you submit a bug report to Google.

gt_swagger: please consider https://bugs.launchpad.net/medibuntu/+bug/485730. LC_NUMERIC=C fixes a bug where decimal part of latitude/longitude is cut off. after each update i need to fix it manually. thanks

Hi gt_swagger, i propose using different filename for different versions of google-earth(and we forget about conflicting md5-sums when new version is out). something like: source=(GoogleEarthLinux-${pkgver}.bin::http://dl.google.com/earth/client/current/GoogleEarthLinux.bin ...
