Google Earth for linux seems to be a pile of shit: http://bit.ly/b04zhG - please star the linux crash issues so that the developers will notice
Just tried the windows version (13mb instead of 30mb!) in wine and it works perfectly.

Google updates binary to 5.2.1.1588 version but it crashes after runs.
