If you're having the same issues with Arch, Fedora and Windows then perhaps the issue is not with handbrake. Do you have all four OSs runing on the same computer? I'd try asking in the handbrake forums (https://forum.handbrake.fr/index.php).

Just installed, and am still getting core dumps. I'm getting further than with repo package, but still cannot make it thru an entire encode. Any suggestions? I have this same issue on FC19 and Win7/8. However, I have no issues on OSX. I have tried different files, tried with/without subtitles.

pkgver=5585 * Removed x264 patch, which is no longer needed

Segfault issue (on x264) seems to be fixed[1]. I confirmed the hb isn't aborted. Please see PKGBUILD[2] and patch[2] to apply the patch. I modified the PKGBUILD for testing the patch more;) [1]http://git.videolan.org/gitweb.cgi/x264.git/?a=commit;h=89aecb4 [2]http://pastebin.com/pzEHUd4j [3]http://pastebin.com/mBs9iefU

Compiling with a version of gcc < 4.8 is the only viable solution to the segfault during file scan issue at the moment.

Spoke to soon, orginal file was 1.5GB converted file 43.3 MB. What crap. Guess I have to redownload me show :(

No problem compiling for me but kills as soon as I try to convert with the GUI. I was having problems using the stabe package from the repo, it would only convert to 51% before killing. The command line works fine though, its almost done converting a two pass 1080p. I have an automated process that converts MythTV recordings all day long with no problems. My Crapsung TV croaks on mkv half the time and I needed to convert a show to MP4 and was going to use the GUI to do it real quick, thats when all these problems started......

pkgver=5415 No fix for the gcc issues yet but I've changed the PKGBUILD to facilitate the use of different gcc versions. Just adapt the first part of the configure line as necessary, e.g. CC=gcc-4.6 CXX=g++-4.6 ./configure --gcc=/usr/bin/gcc-4.6 ... for gcc 4.6.x

Sadly, clang does not appear to be an option. The mp4v2 contrib package needs patching to build with clang and then fails to link.

With clang it didnt work for me (same crash when start encoding). But i manage to succesfully build/install gcc 4.6.3 with this https://dev.archlinux.org/~remy/tmp/gcc46-4.6.3-1.src.tar.gz Then handbrake-svn compiles and works fine using gcc 4.6
