Sure I could, but what difference does it make :)

You could just use post_install with both post_upgrade and post_remove too.

@Det, pacman was passing pkgver through these arguments, but there is really no need for them in this .install file. Thanks

Det commented on 2011-07-24 06:58 (UTC)

Btw, are the $1 arguments and shifts needed in the .install file anymore? What do they even do?

Ok, I got a response and a changelog [1]. Interestingly it's almost as if AP didn't even remember to write the changelog until checking my topic. [1] = http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=164017

I created a topic in nV News concerning the changelog of 280.04 - we'll see if I get any responses: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=164014

There has been a bug report filed to expand functionality back to desktop cards.

How can it be 'fixed' if the output already says that it doesn't support anything else than Quadro and Tesla devices (as Pierre already pointed out in your topic - also mentioned in the manpage)?: "NVSMI provides diagnostic information for Tesla and select Quadro devices. [...] Supported products: Tesla: S1070, S2050, C1060, C2050/70, M2050/70/90, X2070/90 Quadro: 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 and M2070-Q Other: All other products are unsupported"

Looks good. Does 280.04 fix the nvidia-smi issue? https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=119120

I see. Have you tried discussing this with folks from Xorg? If you say it affects binary drivers as well as open source drivers then the trigger might be ditched somewhere in Xorg and the devs might have a clue what it is.
